COASTAL PARADISE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA by Mel Tobias

COASTAL PARADISE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA By Mel Tobias

July and August are the best months to visit British Columbia if you’re not into cold weather and constant rain.  British Columbia’s rich and varied coastline offers hundreds of inlets, islands and exclusive resorts to provide a great escape from the frenetic urban world.   The scenery will surprise you and the wildlife is breathtaking.  You have to “see the whales” and bears in the province.

Adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, in the midst of the Rocky Mountains, Canada’s westernmost province is a mecca for outdoor adventure and a paradise who just want to take it easy.

Gulf Islands is ideal for cruising ground for power boats and.kayakers and sailors will loveVancouver Island. The town of Sidney is a boating hub.  Sunshine Coast, Desolation Sound and Discovery Islands are perfect for fishing.  B.C.’s premier resort in the southern Gulf Islands is the Poets Cove Resort and Spa.

SONORA ISLAND RESORT ON SONORA ISLAND

Nestled in a Pacific archipelago, 125 miles north of Vancouver is Sonora Resort on Sonora Island. It is part of the Discovery Islands.  The resort is at the mouth of Bute Inlet, one of the deepest inlets in North America. It is many things, a luxury hotel, world class spa and wellness retreat, an amazing West Coast luxury retreat amidst virgin wilderness, amazing amenities and opulent comfort, an eco adventure travel and culinary destination and more.  It is also renowned for abundant marine life and great sport fishing opportunities.

Sonora Island Resort is a Relais & Chateau chain of properties around the world. Each of their properties offers the opportunity to enjoy extraordinary sensory experiences and makes every stay a rare and unforgettable experience.

Sonora is a feast for the eyes, body and soul.  And the island connects the guests with its spiritual aura and unblemished natural beauty.  The resort has its unique brand of hospitality, luxuries and high end sense of style.  It is rather exclusive and is accessible to those not into a tight budget.  It is a world away from discounted, crowded budget tours and people who patronize the mass crowd of giant cruises looking for cheap souvenirs and free food.

Accommodation includes all gourmet meals, liquor & wine, mini-bar items, complimentary wireless Internet and unlimited international phone calls. The Sonora property defines boutique grandeur with only 88 suites, each room is enchanting as the rest of the property which include a couple of villas for big families.

The island is only accessible by helicopter or seaplane from Vancouver (approximately a hour ride), or water taxi from Campbell River.  The scenery of British Columbia is spectacular via air or water.  It makes people realize the beauty of British Columbia and Gulf Islands.  Sonora welcome guests from May to October each year.

From the moment you get out of the seaplane or boat, you know you have arrived to someplace special, to serenity, exclusivity, privacy and luxury.  Guests feel immediately welcomed by well-trained staff who can prepare a customized activity itinerary or pre-book your preferences.  The staff is warm, accommodating without intruding into one’s personal space.  They know when you want to be left alone and make you feel that you have the place to yourself.

The other guests come from all over the world. They are friendly but not intrusive and they have genuine interest in their fellow guests.  Conversations with complete strangers often lead to friendship.

To sum it all, it is a kind of place where you lose track of time.  It is a refined example of a casually elegant lifestyle and a way to experience magical realism in a majestic and prestige setting.
