literASIAN Festival: Celebrating 20 Years of Asian Canadian Writing

Vancouver BC – As part of the 20th anniversary of the Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop and Ricepaper Magazine, LiterASIAN Festival: Pacific Rim Asian Canadian writing will take place from Thursday October 8th, 2015 to Sunday, October 11th, 2015.  LiterASIAN is a spotlight on Asian Canadian literature, history, and culture.

literASIAN: A Festival of Pacific Rim Asian Canadian Writing will take place on October 8 – 11, 2015 at the UBC Learning Exchange, 612 Main Street in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown and Jade Dynasty Restaurant, 137 East Pender Street, Vancouver. The festival will include book launches, workshops, panel discussion, book fair and opening dinner gala.  Featured authors at the festival include published and award winning writers, Derwin Mak, JF Garrard, Eric Choi, Tony Pi, Wesley Lowe, Holman Wang, Christina Kim, Shirley Camia, and David Ng.

“Although for the past three decades ACWW has helped writers get published, this is the only festival in Canada that highlights how the Pan-Asian literary voice has added to Canadian literary culture. ” says Jim Wong-Chu, festival director. “Our audience will be challenged on their perceptions of what exactly Asian Canadian writing is.”

literASIAN’s Opening Gala Banquet Presents the 2015 Emerging Writers Award and AlliterAsian anthology.  The Emerging Writers Award was established in 1999 to help authors of Pacific Rim Asian heritage be published with an established publishing house.  This year’s 2015 winner will be announced at the gala and the award presented to the successful author.

We will also launch our new publication AlliterAsian: Twenty Years of Ricepaper Magazine (by Arsenal Press), a wide-ranging anthology of Asian Canadian literature to celebrate twenty years of the best of Asian Canadian writing.  Tickets are $50 each, and a portion of the proceeds will go towards to next year’s ACWW Emerging Writers Award.

Program schedule and tickets are available online at http://literasian.com
